Brock Crags and Angletarn Pikes, 11 January 2004
A weekend in Lancaster gave us the opportunity for a brief visit to the Lake District. On a day of hailstorms, sleet, and gale force winds we walked from Hartsop, ascending Brock Crags and Angletarn Pikes.

A few minutes ago there was a violent hail storm with thunder and lightning. However, as Wainwright said, "You only meet optimists on top of mountains". So we set off from Hartsop, with no one else about. In fact we never passed another walker all day (although we saw one or two in the distance), which must be rare on a Sunday in the Lakes.

From about half way up the steep ascent of Brock Crags, a glimpse of Brotherswater

It's blowing a gale up here, just below the top of Brock Crags, but there's a fine view back to Gray Crag and Ill Bell beyond

On the top of Angletarn Pikes, it's so windy it's impossible to stand still enough to take a photo. We found a place among the hailstones just below the summit that was just sheltered enough to let us eat some lunch. We then dropped down to Boardale Hause and back to Hartsop.
