DUBLIN 2-3 APRIL 2005

The statute of the Irish writer Patrick Kavanagh by the Grand Canal.

The Grand Canal. (Some years ago we spent a narrowboat holiday on this canal in the middle of Ireland.)

The statue commemorating the Irish Famine in St Stephen's Green.

The Victorian Floral Garden in the centre of St Stephen's Green is just coming into flower.

Panorama

There are many monuments to Irish literary figures in St Stephen's Green. This is to a poet called Mangan.

James Joyce. The inscription says "Crossing Stephens...this is my green".

Another Dublin icon - Molly Malone.

Three pictures from inside Trinity College:

In the Dubh Linn gardens at Dublin Castle.

Colourful buildings in the Castle complex.

A view over the Dubh Linn which was the site of the 'dark pool' which gave Dublin its name. The statute is seen from the back - it is a tribute the Irish team in the Paralympics.

The General Post Office in O'Connell Street, the site of the proclamation of the Irish Republic in the Easter Rising of 1916.

The Millenium Spire erected last year outside the Post Office on the former site of Nelson's Column blown up by the IRA some years ago. So high, I couldn't quite get the top in!
