Great Borne and Starling Dodd, 1 August 2004

A view across Ennerdale Water to Crag Fell.

A view of the lake from the summit of Bowness Knott.

Our route up Great Borne was up the true left side of Herdus Gill, which can be seen falling steeply down the ravine in the top left of the image.

On the slopes of the gill is an ancient fox trap - there wasn't one in it today!

The heather is in bloom by the side of the gill.

A view over the lake from half way up the ravine.

Looking down from the ravine to Bowness Knott and Crag Fell over the lake.

From Great Borne we went on to Starling Dodd (2085 feet).

Next to the traditional stone cairn is one which looks like it escaped from Tate Modern!
