The Hertfordshire Way is a 166 mile long distance trail around the county divided into 14 legs, and beginning and ending at Royston. Bluetiger walked the fifth leg from Markyate to Tring, 11 miles, in April 2003. The guidebook describes this as "a more wooded section of the walk" passing through part of the Ashridge Estate "with its walks, woodland and downland" and "fine rural scenery".

Everywhere on this walk there were masses of dandelions

The park at Beechwood House was landscaped by Capability Brown - some of the trees are showing their age

Beechwood House - now a preparatory school. The house was built on the site of a nunnery, which, on the dissolution of the monasteries became a Tudor mansion where Edward VI once stayed.

Spectators at The Hoo, between Jockey End and Great Gaddesden

"One impulse from a vernal wood...."  Hoo Wood

In the wood the bluebells are out.....this must be rare on Good Friday

Great Gaddesden is a smart village....even the daffodils in the verge are doubles
