STUBAITAL: THE ELFERHUT AND ZWOLFERNIEDER

This walk began with a ride on the Elfer lift from Neustift to a height of 1794m (5887 ft). Early in the morning there were still clouds and banks of mist down in the Stubai valley.

We then climbed up to the Elferhutte at 2080m (6825 ft) from where there were views down the valley past Telfes to the hazy mountains above Innsbruck.

The Elferhutte

Then we walked along the Panoramaweg, high above the Pinnistal with dramatic views across to the cliffs of Hammerspitze and Kirchdachspitze.

We had views to the end of the valley and the col which leads to the Gschnitztal and to the summit of Habicht (3277m, 10752 ft).

The path leads round to the col at Zwolfernieder between the Elferspitze and Zwolferspitze.

The col is at 2335m (7662 ft). This view is towards the rock towers of the Elferspitze.

A view towards Kirchdachsptze from the col.

The Elferspitze (2505m, 8219 ft)

A sketchy path leads up to the rock formations.

Our party lunching at the col. The drop from the bench is almost vertical, and the Stubai valley is far beneath.
