STUBAITAL: FRANZ SENN HUT AND THE RINNENSEE

This walk takes place at the head of the Oberbergtal, the most beautiful side valley in the Stubai. This is a view of the mountains near the Oberisshutte where the walk started.

The path initially zigzags steeply towards the Franz Senn hut, and this is a view looking back down the Oberbergtal.

At the top of the zigzags there is a rocky plateau with initial views of the Stubai glaciers and the Franz Senn hut.

At the Franz Senn hut. This is the largest hut in the Stubai and is named after the parish priest from Neustift (a small town in the valley) who founded the Austrian Alpine Club.

Above the hut the Alpeinerbach river flows from the glaciers at the head of the valley.

From the hut the walk passes above cliffs and rises to the Rinnensee, a small lake in the mountains at 2646 metres (8682 feet).

From the lake there are fine views to the glaciers.

After descending back to the valley we visited the Stocklenalm hut where there were some quaint old cabins.

Walking back to our transport by the river there was this fine view down to the Kalkkogel range.
