STUBAITAL: THE SCHLICKER ALM AND GLOATSTEIG

To begin this walk we went across the meadows from Telfes to Fulpmes, with beautiful views down the valley past the Elferspitze to the glaciers.

We went up a forest path towards the Schlicker Alm and broke out into a clearing with this view of Kalkkogel.

At the Schlicker Alm there is an attractive chapel.

There is also a fine view up the valley to the Sennjoch.

Then we climbed up to a path known as the Gloatsteig which contours high above the valley. This was our lunch stop, with a fine view back to the Schlicker Alm in the clearing below the mountains.

There were spectacular views, including this one back down all the way to Telfes....

....and this one to Fulpmes.

After a while the path crosses the brilliant white screes which fall from Ampferstein.

But even here some flowers grow, here forming the foreground to a view of Serles.

A variety of coltsfoot (we think).

Another attractive view of Serles from the point where the path rises again to the hut at Pharrachalm.

From here the path we took can be seen cutting across the middle of the screes.

The peaks on the southern side of the Stubai valley seen from the path to Pharrachalm.

At the Pharrachalm hut.

The hut had a rock garden with some edelweiss.

We descended through the forest back to Telfes, with views to the Inn valley and over the Europa Bridge, one of the highest in Europe, which leads up to the Brenner Pass into Italy.
